Right. But the infield fly didn’t apply with only a runner on first. That only comes into play with runners on 1st and 2nd or bags juiced w/less than 2 outs.

The ump never made the infield fly mechanic so -2 points to the announcers for not knowing what the infield fly rule is and thinking that the ump actually called an infield fly. They fucked it up all the way around. No biggie for not knowing what the intentional drop rule is (which this play wasn’t), it’s a rare play.…

You need to learn your umpire mechanics then. The first thing the 1st base ump does is give a “safe” communcation mechanic. Then, after the ball drops, he raises both hands (multiple times) which is the “time” mechanic.

That’s not what seattlemaninblue was saying. At all. It’s not about the announcer’s ignorance of a rarely called intentional drop. It is very much about the ignorance of an *very common* infield fly rule which was NOT IN EFFECT b/c there was only a runner on first.

If I’m reading your post right..........In this play, Kinsler lets the ball intentionally drop to the ground without touching it. That’s legal. If he would have intentionally dropped the ball from his glove, that’s an immediate dead ball, the batter would have been out and the runner would have been returned to first…
