I...what? WHAT?

Yep, unlike Trayvon Martin he had an actual criminal record and yet somehow Florida considered the unarmed kid he murdered the only "thug" in this situation. Gosh, I wonder why?

This is terrible. I'm glad he's going to be ok. My next thought on this was....

Poseidon is uncompromising in his requirements for sacrificial offerings.

"For a nuclear deterrent that we're never going to use."
You're kidding, right? That's the very definition of a successful deterrent.

Also, although the US still operates the Harrier, it's limping along. They're overworked and haven't kept up with modern technology (avionics, comms, weapons, etc.) They need the F-35B

And I don't think this article goes far enough in clarifying just how non-linear non-mammal sex determination is. Insects as a whole have no consistency, and while diplodiploidy (males and femalss have two sex chromosomes) is considered basal to all insect orders, evolution takes that and runs amok. Aphids take

It has to do with female vs male strategies; there's a spectrum for each but they often don't overlap. Males may employ the machine-gun method, aka 'spray and pray.' Instead of investing in offspring they try to just make a lot of offspring from a lot of mates.

Females - broadly, generally- invest more per offspring.

I think it has to be a three way between beaver, duck and scorpion. Dat platy venom tho!

For sure. Hymenoptera (ants, wasps, bees) have different kinds of sex determination systems — note the plural, since they're not all the same. And some microbial symbionts can also mess with sex determination in insects.

As a scientist, I think the general public seriously underappreciates how radically different sex determination is in different types of organism. It's clear from a huge number of studies that sex chromosomes are by far the fastest-evolving chromosomes in pretty much every system we've looked at.

Londo likes peacocking. Adira, not so much.

It would, and does lead to males being eaten. It's just that the advantage to pulling a mate outweighs the disadvantage of dying an early death. The risk is part of the attraction. You have to be some kind of bird to not just grow a tail like that, but live with it as well.

So, what I gather from this is that science has proved Platypuses are made when ducks and beavers mate.

It has a Flux Capacitor?!

Nope, this jumped out at me too and pissed me off. She was a child! A child that was tied up and locked in a car and raped. 39 months? MULTIPLE accounts of sexual assault?! That monster SHOULD NOT BE SOCIETY!

This may sound a little weird, but I'm glad every time I read stories like this. I'm glad every single example of women being treated poorly hits the news and get spread around, because it means it's being talked about. Had this happened pre-Internet, would anyone here ever have known about it?

The Inuit woman's suit says she has suffered from PTSD since the assault.
