If we are going to open up a state to liability for the tortituous acts occurring under its licensing and regulatory schemes there could be a huge problem. Every injury caused by drunk driving death (state regulation of booze ) or a car collision (state issued drivers license) and continuing out from there would

This is a horrible injury and all, but what does the State of Connecticut have to do with it? Unless she could show that they were negligent in issuing a permit or licensing for the dangerous animal, there's no way this would ever get to a trial.

Tried liking/recommending your comment, but Kinja hates freedom.

Surprised it took this long to show up on Jez. The father was told by bother his son, and his daughter, that it was a stranger (the son didn't know who it was). Father didn't shoot until he a) determined he didn't know the kid and b) called 911 and c) only shot after the boy made a move the father saw as

I agree. And having had a teenage son in this same situation, I was upset when my son got arrested - now I'm just thankful he wasn't shot!

I joined Kinja just to say that I'm really irked that people have the nerve to get all upset about this boy's photo being used. This photo made my eyes well up, and gave me a physical, disgusted reaction similar to the one I had when I was rocking myself back and forth in the foetal position the first time I watched

As a child who was beaten, I wish there had been photos taken of me as proof. I have had many people in my life (close family and friends) who disbelieved what had happened to me because my dad seemed like such a "good guy". I think it needs to been shown what people do to their kids. His face isn't shown, he is

I don't understand people complaining about this. Images of starving children with their faces showing are used all the time to compel people to donate to programs. They choose to use them because actually seeing a starving child, who's skeletal structure is visible, is much more moving than reading about one.

He can't be identified from the picture, and I think publishing it really drives home how bad the abuse was. The stepmother says the story isn't true, but if a child in your care looks like that there's no way you aren't being abusive.

I disagree completely. There is nothing identifiable about the child in this picture and I wouldn't put it here if there was, trust me. But showing this photo adds a very powerful visual element to this story that hammers home the severity of the situation that words just would not be able to do. I say that as someone

As much as it is horrifying to see a picture of the child (whose identity is not revealed); it brings home that this is what child abuse looks like. It makes it real, and shows the child so suffering. In a culture in which we generally only see mugshots of the abusers, it might be helpful to demonstrate the real

I keep going back to what it must be like for that teenager to have to try to find the strength to speak up and fight back in that situation. He was literally fist fighting his stepfather when cops showed up.

I totally get the overwhelmed, frustrated, my-career-is-going-nowhere feeling. Welcome to the late-twenties, Lindsay. Making the phonecalls, doing the legwork, and FORCING OTHER PEOPLE TO GIVE A SHIT ABOUT YOUR CAREER through sheer force of will?

This is how the normals roll. Welcome.

LOL at Lindsay thinking she even had a shot at anything in the Avengers sequel. I'm not even sorry for saying it but she is DELUSIONAL. And as for the whining that her agents aren't willing to fight for her, well, why should they? At this point most productions would probably regard her as a liability on set, and

Nothing says "I'm taking my sobriety seriously" like taking part in a reality show.

Another day, another child fed to a boyfriend. Or another boyfriend who was mother's hit man.

In general, weaponized liberal outrage is a devastating resource, and we must only use it for good.

Wow, it must suck to have 200 professors publish a letter decrying your mother while you are still a student at the university. This takes humiliation via parent to a whole new level. I bet her son cannot wait to graduate.

The problem with hydrogen is that it's so small, its always going to be leaking. If you intend to stay up for more than a couple days, you're simply going to have to produce more hydrogen from electrolysis. It seems like you should be able to make your bladders out of some brominated polyester, reinforced with an
