RX-8 owner here. I’ll certainly keep this car around as long as I can and I might even buy another one as this one is becoming more and more of a dedicated autocross car. But if I’m going to buy another Mazda, it will probably end up being even older than the one I have (FD or a Cosmo). Everything they have made now…
I’ve posted a similar comment on the Oppo FB group but I have been dick-teased and left blue-balled by Mazda so many times now that any time I see news about Mazda producing something ‘Mazdaspeed’ or ‘Rotary’, I don’t even react to it anymore.
While I’m certainly glad this defense failed. I can’t help but to ask myself “If this was ‘Brock’ Ross, private-school white-boy using this defense, would it have been so easily rejected?”
yeah, I worded that wrong but I realized I should have changed it after I lost the ability to edit it.
Yeah, there are certain other aspects of the wankel rotary that could certainly benefit from some upgrades (Theres a reason why everyone makes apex-seal jokes). I’m certain there are better, stronger, and better sealing materials out there to make apex-seals out of nowadays. The rotor housings themselves would have to…
The shrouded sparkplugs of the Wankel rotary engine are one of the engines greatest design compromises in terms of fuel efficiency and emissions. Having to keep the plug buried in the housing doesn’t exactly allow for optimal combustion within the housing. If Mazda can somehow adapt this Skyactiv-X sparkless…
I know this, but according to the track layouts ( http://www.racingcircuits.info/europe/belgium/spa-francorchamps.html ) there used to be the ‘bus stop’ corner which was replaced by a chicane. Both of them look like they limit speed, but do it in a different manner. Watching some video from the ‘88 grand prix, and…
This years top qualifying F1 lap time was a 1.41.5 by Vettel. I looked over Spa’s configuration history and there have been changes to the course between then and now. I don’t know how much slower the ‘88 cars would be on the current layout, but given the distance of the course is only .064km, I can’t imagine it being…
I had an MKV GTI and an MKVI JSW TDI both DSG equipped so I'm pretty well versed in them. I just didn't realize the 4-motion came with it! This certainly moves the Golf Sportwagen 4-motion up on my list a few spots!
This actually is a possibility I have considered. One thing that has held me off is that I was under the assumption that VW only offered these with a standard torque converter automatic-transmission. But I’m not 100% certain that is the case. If I’m wrong and I can get the 1.8t with a DSG and AWD, I might end up…
Im thankful for my RX-8. I know it’s not exactly considered the best, most reliable thing out there to the point where I even wrote an article all about why you shouldn’t buy one (https://oppositelock.kinja.com/the-mazda-rx-8-one-of-the-best-worst-cars-a-buyers-g-1759904335 )
I’d say these tires would handle that situation well. The only thing I really can’t give an opinion on right now is how long they’ll last. But they are a 500TW tire, so I’d say they’ll wear pretty well. And if they are like the WRG3's that I had on another vehicle, they continue to be fairly winter-capable even as…
My review will include my views on this aspect of it as well. I was able to get some 70* dry and wet weather driving along with lots of cold wet/dry weather driving. I was fortunate enough to even get significant time on an ice-covered parking lot.
I am running the Nokian WRG4's this year on my ‘16 STI. I will be doing a write-up on them on Oppositelock soon. I’m just waiting for a good snowfall (I live in Buffalo, so it shouldn’t be too much longer) to do my last segment of evaluation on them.
I cannot believe the press release for the TRD versions of the Avalon and Camry don’t tell me how much more ‘grounded to the ground’ they are.
This is probably a good idea. In fact, it might be enough of a good idea that it should even be done on a periodic basis (once every year maybe?). I read a lot of Splinter but try to stay out of the commenting sections as it gets much more ugly (especially lately)than my usual stomping-grounds of Jalopnik and…
I’m 38 and drive around my 8 and 6 year olds in a 2016 STI with a COBB turbo-back and stage-2 tune. Life is too short to drive boring cars.
