I work as a comedian, and there’s plenty of material still out there to work with. It does have an effect though. It makes you less willing to try material that deals with sensitive issues. Ten years ago I might approach something at a few open mics, maybe get some negative feedback and either drop it from my act or

(X) The GM made a terrible decision and seriously overpaid some other player and, because in the NFL contracts are not really contracts, and because you refused to take a paycut to make up for our mistakes, so long, been good to know you.

Can someone dig up the fired coach form letter? I’m sure that’s a gem. What do you suppose the choices are there?

I’ve seen this website go after comedians, by calling them out for jokes they tell on stage at comedy clubs. I look at the comment section, and it’s a bunch of people talking about how awful comedians can be with their jokes. Somehow, that’s not a performance art. But then, some girl who was proven to not be raped,

My inner Toreador is sniffing derisively at this as boring Poseur narcissism at its worst.

The video is bad enough. The list of questions and observations is downright obnoxious. I'm starting to think the problem with Sulcowicz is that she's insufferable.

Putting caveats on ART is vapid. Reaction IS the goal. Asking people to watch kindly would be like Pollack saying “You can’t look at this if you don’t like my other work.” And art (especially performance) is about mental participation and reaction, even if the reaction is horror, anger, or any other “negative”

From her site:

I think readers deserve an apology

Do you think I’m the perfect victim or the world’s worst victim?

Ladies & Gentlemen, your Jezebel gold-standard: Emma Sulkowicz.

  • Me:

Ugh. Okay, I finally watched some of it. Not much. Just enough to feel like I could make an informed comment. A few things: Yes, whatever she says to the contrary, she is recreating the alleged incident. The time stamp on the video is the date of the event in question, and from what I could tell the particulars of

Simple: Emma’s a lunatic.

I think it means that if you watch it just to tear her apart, then you are raping her too.

I don’t believe this is art. It appears to be an attempt to influence the debate about the alleged rape by Nungesser, by staging a re-enactment. By dating the video as the same date as the alleged rape, she is making a clear comparison to what she says happened on August 27, 2012: consensual sex followed by a slap,

YOU CAN’T DECIPHER MY NUANCES!

I think the message she’s trying to send is. Me!!

She outlines ways to watch the video, namely

well this is going to be a funny comments section, remember not to engage any trolls that don’t believe drunken sex is rape or any sex without orgasms is rape.
