Overall, Athena and Hermes boons focus on survivability and mobility, which are incredibly useful on ANY run, until the point where you get so good that you can dodge everything.
Bit of a gamble though. But could be useful when you get the Pact and the Heat that grants extra damage on traps.
Really, any fast-attacking NORMAL strikes (like the Fist weapon or the Spear) with the Athena Boon that grants deflection on the Normal strikes (Square for PS4) will also grant MASSIVE survivability when you spam those attacks when you should not.
And that, of course, is a very good thing.
