When I paid off my Volvo I immediately set up an auto-transfer for the amount of my payments into a savings account. I suggest this tactic as, otherwise you’ll get used to having the “extra” cash around.

I wonder how much of these were fleet sales? Our local FCA dealers all give the Journey as loaners and I imagine there are a fair few being picked up as “high end” rentals...

Word of warning on the MAP/ MAF sensor. I definitely killed mine cleaning it. Not sure how (didn’t touch the element and was generally gentle) but it went from functional to dead following the cleaning.

They definitely took a wrong turn at Albuquerque...

I valet parked my (shitty, old) Alfa at a hotel once. Once.

Is there a choice other than the Packard? I don’t see one...

So many times lured into the “oh I’ll just check _____ before I change into my wrenching clothes” and before I know it another pair of work pants is soiled.

For me it is Korean cars. Nothing against their cars, just the drivers. They seem to be #1 in sudden suicidal driving.

Good to know. Mine has been pretty OK so far (fingers crossed) aside from the amigos and the head gaskets. Allegedly the replacement gaskets and stretch bolts are an improvement over the standard design anyway...

Haha didn’t happen to be in Sacramento did it?

OH NOES! Mine is a ‘01 with (formally?) leaky sunroofs!

OH WOW. That suuuuucks. I bought mine with (unknown to me) blown head gaskets, drove it over 1800 miles offroad like that, and the only time it broke down was because I forgot to add coolant.

Yup! I think you nailed it. I didn’t watch the video because... well I just didn’t care that much. I figured the button would have been in the center, but it sort of makes sense to be in the roof. Accessible but hard to hit on accident. Also the can keep it out of press photos (like they did) to make it seem less

Ok... real question here, but why do none of these cars have an emergency stop button?

Land Rovers are... weird. I own one of the newer “mall rated” Rovers and can safely say objectively it isn’t a very good car... but it is a very interesting car.

LED scanning maybe? Seems unlikely a tail light would just be out like that.

In May a couple friends and I did a “Top Gear style” cheap car challenge road trip that involved buying 4WD vehicles. On “buy day” after a couple of my potentials fell through, a tasty Isuzu Rodeo (what, I like them!) came up for sale at a downtownish dealer. We drove over and took a look.

Something like that, yeah. Just ripped the plastic panel off, but also dented it a bit iirc.

Ditto manuals. “No one buys manuals!” Says the car dealer who didn’t order any.

He bent the rocker on a Range Rover Sport in some episode or another.
