I've had king snakes that preferred death to letting go when submerged in water. Isopropyl alcohol poured over their head though will make them let go in a hurry. Burns like crazy but gets a pet snake off fast.

The noise of the cooking utensils will scare off all animals with the plus side of never having to leave your tent, just remember to put your cook pot and spoon next to your sleeping bag before bedding down. It's good that you are a light sleeper, even if it means a poor nights sleep for you, I'm an extremely light…
Better than a gun for camping is your cooking equipment. Makes a horrible racket and sends them packing no matter how determined. I spent a summer as a camp counselor and on one of our overnight hikes we had three, or more, bears surround the camp. Near as we could figure it was a male bear trying to get to a…
I wouldn't say stress is what always causes coyotes to form packs as a lack of other apex predators will do the same. When wolves were gone from Yellowstone the coyote packs grew larger and began to step into the roll the wolves once filled. You are right that to encounter a coyote during the day can be a good…
Well, color me embarrassed, you are right, I was reversing the words. Maybe it's a typo?
I posted this above but wanted to make sure you saw it because it's a valid concern:
Probably the ones that sacrificed a limb to save their lives. Alligators and crocodiles aren't the best at aiming, they will clamp down on whatever they get and since people tend to defend themselves with their hands....well, I'd rather learn to live with one arm than be dead.
Long sleeves instead of short, pants rather than shorts and a mesh face mask will keep away most mosquitoes. If you are one of the unlucky that attract a hard core following like my sister in law then add some deet spray to your clothes and bug repellant wristbands to your wrists and ankles.
In regular hunting areas the sound of a gun might actually attract predators that are looking to steal an easy meal from a hunter, or even just get at the gut pile.
You might be surprised, people have a tendency to be stunned and accept it when pets attack, almost like they are so shocked they don't react. Because their life is never truly in danger, mostly, they never hit "fight or flight". Your body has what it needs, you've just never had to use it yet, which is a good thing…
For bear attacks I would recommend assessing what type of attack it is rather than which bear is committing it. A mother defending her cubs won't stop until you play dead no matter the species. A bear that has stalked you and intends to make a meal of you will only commence trying to eat you if you play dead. Wear…
I always wondered if the method used by the people that live in the Sunderband to prevent tiger attacks would work with cougars but if one was willing to stare you down before attacking then perhaps not.
But in a pack wolves and coyotes can bring down their regular prey and generally are no threat to people. It's a single animal, wandering on its own that poses a threat to a person, they may be much more desperate for a meal if they can get it easily when they don't have back up. Dogs can become much more aggressive…
You're correct, sharks noses are hard and you would do more damage to your hand in the long run, going for a predators eyes is the best bet, they can't find another meal if the one they want now blinds them so most will back off.
Some dog trainers will use the same technique to reprimand dogs that bite. It causes a gag reflex that seems to stun the animal for a few moments and gets them to back off and reassess.
Besides, how did she miss the holding cells in the basement? I don't know about anyone else but that would have been one of my questions during a walk through. Along the lines of:
