Are the inspectors not certified and regulated there? In the UK every car 3 years and older requires a yearly MOT inspection, it’s pretty thorough, most people feel it’s necessary and I personally have never had an MOT inspector try and rip me off. I seem to remember Mercedes using the excuse that they didn’t think it was going to be economically viable, for their mid-sized\priced cars, to design them to accept straight sixes with the ever more stringent crash regulations. It will be to do with regulations, prob here in Europe, about brake lights being visible when transporting items with the boot open I would think and them being too cheap to put secondary ones inside the opening like Audi, Opel etc do.
