Right, it’s entirely possible that with part 2 here they just say “okay we are officially in new territory here” and no longer retell the events of the original game, but... from interviews and what we’re seeing in the trailer, it sure seems we’re still gonna see lots of events from the original game. I dunno!

Yeah, this is truly a sequel, so while it isn’t 100% necessary, it would be worthwhile to play the original. Which makes me hope that they’ll do a true HD remake to make it more palatable to today’s audiences. I don’t mean in the style of Remake, I mean something more akin to Ever Crises, but just a recreation of the

Wasn't disc 3 nothing but the final boss fight and final cut scenes?

Dammit. As I never played the original game (I was a Nintendo fanboy until 2001), I was hoping that Remake would let me experience the story in full.

Correct, though this Sephiroth has experienced the events of FF7 since FF7R is a sequel so who knows. Really, the reason why Tifa wouldn’t be dead is because it’d be dumb to reveal that in a trailer like this.

Yeah I admittedly never finished the game but from what I remember reading back in the day, what you’re saying is correct: he’s not a clone but instead a dude who was heavily experimented on.

The Cloud from the original game is a clone with alien cells and Mako energy infused into his body who also doesn’t remember the most important events in his life.”
It’s been a long time since I played, but while the game does fake out Cloud being a clone, doesn’t it eventually reveal that he’s just a normal human

The disaster footage mentions “A tornado” that destroyed the city. That tornado was the big “plot ghost” tornado that served as one of the final boss fights of Remake, and the presence of which is probably what split things into the “Normal Timeline” and the “Zack is Alive Timeline,” with all the injured Avalanche

Small correction - he says “I *thought* I killed Tifa, so who is she?”. This is in line with the original story. Sephiroth probably does *think* he killed her. Cloud even thought he killed her.

That’s the read I got too but it’s been a bit and I gotta replay the game.

no, just that Cloud has never had any idea how Tifa survived being slashed, so Sephiroth is sowing doubt about her identity.

The remake-canon novel “Trace of Two Pasts” actually does explain how she survived. Zangan (her martial arts master) finds her and keeps her alive with magic long enough for her to get a series of surgeries over the course of a couple years to rebuild her sternum (and I want to say spine?), plus several skin grafts.

The first one took me 90 hours to finish, including the Intergrade chapter, so you are probably staring down the barrel of 3 fully-realized games totaling nearly 200 hours if you want to 100% complete all of them.

I think people are reading waaaay too far into that line.

The first game had a lot of Shenanigans about Sephiroth trying to change the canon storyline in ways big and small and the wraiths trying to protect the canon, for example by making sure that Barrett survived but also that AVALANCHE died trying to protect Sector 7. The canon changes at the end which leads to new

I’m actually quite happy about this. FF7 was the first multi disc game that I ever acquired, it seemed so massive, like you were holding an entire world in your hands. It’s a nice little blast of nostalgia, and this is one of the few games that I just don’t care how much space it needs, the bigger the better.

Also am

going for broke by implying Tifa might actually die

To go along with this, apparently there are some elements in the (apparently canon) side stories/novels that were made in the FF7 continuity that suggest a certain amount of...interaction with things via the Lifestream that both Sephiroth and Aerith are able to achieve (I last looked into it shortly after Remake came

It really doesn’t seem to me to be anything more than an extrapolation of the mind games Sephiroth was playing on Cloud throughout the first half of the original game.

I said THE Real FFVII
