I know you’re joking, but I fucking hate that this is what video game discourse is nowadays.

LOL yeah reminds of game reviews that HardOCP (RIP) used to do.  Loved the site they had some REALLY in depth reviews of all kinds of tech, but they would be comparing super zoomed in screen shots showing TINY TINY differences in video settings.  The whole time I am sitting there thinking if your just PLAYING the

these mark the true merits of a critic: noticing that the walking animations are altered ever-so-slightly to where the character has a minute gait. that’s real criticism. paying attention to writing and gameplay are for simpletons but you will be forgiven for recognizing the error of your ways

right? like why don’t folks say this about films and music and shit? there’s literally so much reuse in entertainment but it really only seems to be gamers who actually care. horizon f0rbidden west is probably just as long - if not longer - than zero dawn and that should suffice enough. not whether or not every single

I’m honestly surprised that we don’t see stock animation libraries used everywhere, like the ones that exist for sound effects.  How many times does someone need to animate a generic NPC’s walk loop?  As long as you follow some conventions when rigging your bipeds, you should be able to play back generic animations

I see a lot of new games being compared here, but allow me to point some games that even though they’re worse offenders, this “offense” is barely mentioned now that the game is not new anymore...

literally ! if it ain’t broke why fix it? taking that a step further if it saves you time why not use it? these are real people working hard to make videogames. it shouldn’t matter if a sequel has the same animations. it’s meant to

Oh no, an animation you saw not very often in the first game for the same character is the same in the sequel where it probably also won’t be used often...

Heck I’m fairly certain there are animations in Halo Infinite which are from the original Halo ce.

Majora’s Mask is considered by many to be the best Zelda game ever made, and it reused damned near every asset from Ocarina of Time.

If it ain’t broke...

I would rather they focus on new content and adding new animations and abilities to Aloy rather than redoing every single piece of Aloy’s walking and climbing animations. It’d be different if the animations wee terrible in HZD, but they were, in fact, excellent.

Did you guys know Terminator 2 used the same actors for the T-800 and Sarah Connor as Terminator 1?

I hope the people complaining about that don’t take a look at Ubisoft games. The Far Cry and Assassin’s Creed games are designed to reuse as much as possible from the previous game and their whole schedule is based on it (meaning the next Assassin’s Creed game will be very similar to Valhalla). They do that with other

lol wtf? It’s a sequel of course they are going to reuse all animation and probably even meshes, characteres etc of the previous game!

I worked on Shadow of the Tomb Raider and let me tell you we re-used almost every single animations of the 2 previous games, on top of creating the new ones needed. That is just how

Fine with me. Sequels shouldn’t be  duplicates, but they should in some degree be familiar.

Navi is a bit annoying, true, but the way they contextualized the tutorials/hints/lock-on system into a side-kick that dynamically followed you around was pretty amazing and quite ahead of its time in my opinion.

Navi never bothered me. I like that Link had a little fairy companion. I was always bummed that fan reaction to the character ensured we’d never get a resolution to that storyline.

In retrospect the line for what is offensive and triggering has really shifted since 2001.

I mean it’s cool but it’s not as big of a deal as this guy in the video is acting like it is, at least to me.
