This, although it can take up to a couple of weeks to get rid of the ants (a couple of days is possible, but don't depend upon it). It's also one of the safer insecticides to use around children and pets.

This. Just install the "xubuntu-desktop" package.

Agreed, this is a bad idea.

Turn in your geek card, people. This is just a variant of a suggestion by Alton Brown (one of the cooking gods in the Geek Pantheon): [www.youtube.com]

Once you've been infected by the unity awfulness, the easiest way out is to startup the synaptic package manager and install "xubuntu-desktop", which is xfce-based. (No, it's not the world's best UI, but it gives you something quite sane and usable, IMO.)

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot? As long as the plates are "clean" (no food/oily residue, etc., etc.), I'm not going to care about bacteria. People have coexisted with bacteria since time immemorial, with generally harmless results. (Yes, there are examples of very bad bacteria — like the Black Death — but those probably

Sadly, since there's no money in it, websites have little reason to adopt OpenID, as great as it is.

The only real possible issue with this is that old PCs can draw a lot of power (100-200W, depending on the PC). If you're in an area with expensive power, that can be an issue.

It is like watching a regular video. Unlike a regular video, you can pan and scan to see what else is going on.

Last time I looked at this, each video was on the order of gigabytes in size. Yeah, the videos are very impressive, but there's no farking way I'm going to download gigabytes just to watch relatively short videos.

Beef it up??? In all probability, google doesn't own the source code to the maps app, and so they'll have to write one from scratch. I hope google started work on this months ago; however, given google's poor track record with app functionality (e.g., google voice and the gmail app), a google maps app might still

That's ... too intelligent. :)

Actually, I was thinking that you'll need more cameras and solar panels to keep a watch on the other cameras and solar panels ....

I'm hoping this hits Fark. Lots of brain cell killing suggestions might come from that. :)

If you want to go hillbilly-style, some people grow potatoes by stacking old tires on the ground. You first start with one tire, and then add more tires/dirt as the plants grow.

Having done this in previous years, I've got mixed feelings about it. If you live in a hot, somewhat dry area, porous (e.g., burlap) pots can dry out quickly. On hot days, I was watering my wilting potato plants daily (this was in an, oh, ~15 gallon pot). With plastic bags, you run the risk of steaming your plants

That still restricts airflow somewhat. Heat rises, and that, what, 0.5-inch gap at the top is just going to allow some heat to collect up there before flowing out the open sides. That WILL increase the temperature somewhat, although it's probably device-dependent as to whether or not that will cause problems.

This. I think Windows 8 is going to be similar to Windows Vista, but worse. They're alienating all of their business customers, plus p*ssing off lots of tech-illiterate consumers. Even today, lots of people still find computers hard to use, and this is just going to make it worse.

If you have a large dutch oven (cast-iron pot), you can make bread in it, too: [www.youtube.com]
