Right now, I think the only two real choices are gmail and office365 (which has 25GB mailbox quotas, unlike some other services). Both support IMAP, push mail/ActiveSync (for iOS and, I assume, android), and calendars. Gmail appears to be slightly more reliable (each day, I'll typically get at least one IMAP error

Has the quality changed recently? I made the mistake of buying one a couple of years back and, not only is it uncomfortable (it squeezes your head really hard), but it sounds muddy, without any crispness. With the right audio source, I can CLEARLY hear faint whispery echoes with my Sony MDR, but there's no way I'd

VOTE: Sony MDR series (Sony MDR-V6, if you need a specific model)

Oh god this. Sony makes a lot of crud these days, but the MDR series is just a truckload of awesome. I've also got an ancient MDR-V7 (20+ years) that's still going strong (pads need to be replaced, though)

Instant-read infrared thermometer. Cheap ($15-$50+ on Amazon), has multiple uses. Really cool tech for the kitchen and other places.

The lack of iPhone box carnage is suspicious (that tiny box that the iPhone comes in), as is the lack of slobber on the box (labs often slobber on what they chew), unless it happened hours before the pic was taken.

Those people (generally in California) who have sonic.net as their ISP (these are the same folks that google chose to manage the fiber install around Stanford) have free access to Sonic's VPN. It's not widely publicized, but it is documented in their support wiki. AFAICT, there are no ads or other gotchas. You do,

I'll just mention this, as I'm sure voting for it will be a waste of time: I'm using a VPN (Cisco IPSec) provided for free by my ISP (sonic.net). Supports Windows, OS X, and iOS. Supposedly also works with linux, although you're on your own, there.

The Logitech K800 is a very nice wireless keyboard that auto-illuminates when you move your hands near the keys, and you have four levels of illumination. The feel is like a short-travel laptop keyboard, but it's still quite nice. It has batteries that recharge via a USB micro port, and the rechargeable batteries

Caffeine is better than having to resort to the terminal.

This picture seems to show that the ground in this area is soft/"powdery", given the significant darkened/"cratered"(?) impact areas (for everything but the parachute).

Also:

Am I the only one shocked to read how stupid easy it is to break into someone's Amazon account??? Secure passwords are useless, here. The only "hard" part was knowing the email address that someone used for Amazon.

Also, while Postbox has some nice features, the devs inexplicably seem to have deleted some Thunderbird features. For example, if I mark as message as "junk", I want it GONE — I don't want to see it ever again, and I especially don't want it left in my inbox. For a long time, Thunderbird has had this nice option

Sigh, and I just bought it last night for full price. Foo. Oh, well, maybe the devs will add some nice enhancements.

I'm confused. Did iOS6 change the way contacts works, or is this an android-only problem? In iOS5, all sync'd contacts are in separate groups, and one group cannot affect the other.

up next: how to lie about the water damage caused by steam.

The "it's a science thing" is really misused.
