Don’t get me wrong, I don’t want to retire the A-10 yet. It does the CAS job in a permissible environment effectively and extremely cheaply compared to the alternatives, and it’s quite survivable vs. small arms and even zip guns and manpads. But in any modern air defense environment, it has no role until the fast

There are plenty of people still (some Luddites, but others less so) who argue the F-14 was absolutely NOT made obsolete by the Rhino.

To be fair to the F-35, no new design is EVER “proven” until you give it the chance to do so.

Too bad those offensive lines legitimately WERE bad, though.

Let me make it clear that I’m not defending that SOTU speech. I didn’t defend it then, and I’m not defending it now.

Heard tales of kids growing up near Upper Hereford who had the same problem with the US F-111s there

That’s how he ends every post

Good point. Thinking F-4, F-104, F-105, F-14, F-16, F-22, F-35 all had serious issues early on, and some (like the F-104) always did.

Well, it really could, if the Su-27 wasn’t moving. Or was stalling.

V-22 still can’t carry its engine, though...

Also, dunno how you can honestly look at the rear of an F-35 cockpit then tell me it doesn’t have any visibility issues. It’s like a Russian plane back there.

Oooh... livelier pr0n than usual!

I still say the dumbest part about canceling the alternative engine is that they went with P&W rather than GE for the primary engine.

I wouldn’t be surprised if they always take off with reheat from Luke. 1000' above sea level, routinely very hot, and few communities around to complain about noise.

I believe the C has greater fuel capacity though

You never read Tyler’s post, did you? He mostly rebutted the misreadings of the report.

LHD’s were dead should anyone dangerous come close to them anyway.

So... basically the same as Syria

I didn’t say it never would have happened. I said it was still a possibility even after the speech.

Looks like it was Beneath the Planet of the Apes, thanks.
