As much as I love Boeing and love the P-8, the P-1 just seems to be the best antisub patrol plane in the world right now. True, Kawasaki is having some teething problems, but every new plane has teething problems. I almost wish the US had just waited and bought the P-1 instead of the P-8.

That’s mostly due to the fracking boom, and if you look, it levels off some at 2014. I wouldn’t be surprised if it were level or even dropped so far during 2015. North Dakota oil fields aren’t hiring anymore like they did a few years ago.

The idea with the P-8 seems to be that it really requires a wider area picture with one or more Tritons to be totally effective, though the Triton isn’t operational yet.

Yeah, unless the Kilo is going like a bat out of hell, cavitation isn’t really relevant here.
