Air Conditioning is for Scrubs

Aircooled prices are indeed ridiculous. There is no way in hell I’d pay that kind of money for that kind of mileage.

A YJ or TJ is a GREAT first car, for someone who knows how to treat it and how it acts on-road.

I actually like this steering wheel in the Ford/Lincoln/Mercury cars, but it looks so out of place in an Aston.

I also have a guilty pleasure for “garbage” 80s, 90s, and 00s GM front-wheel drive cars! My dad had a secondhand 2000 Buick LeSabre and I ~loved~ that car. So floaty and comfortable, could be quick when you wanted it to be. Mom had a bright yellow 2002 Monte Carlo, had the trash 3400 V6 but had a banging stereo and

The Z24 did indeed deserve better. Thanks GM for the parts bin engineering on the 3rd gen J-bodies, as well as making every fastener tab plastic.

It would have to be a perfect version of a completely mundane car. A showroom quality 1984 Ford Escort Pony? Oh yes. How about a pristine 1994 Buick Century? Not even a question.

I’m sorry, did you mean that Hyundai is reviving the Renault Clio V6?

Seems like this is more akin to the MK1 GTI. Very small, light, good power to weight.

I’ve had a Weekender for 5 or 6 years and it’s only needed a battery. Has a nice dinged up look now, and I wear it everywhere.

I bought a nice looking Seiko 5 day-date from the late 70s on ebay for $50. Had a gold face and stainless band, but took a tumble off of my dresser one morning and now the second hand just flops around. Maybe I’ll get it fixed, or just go buy another.

She’s pretty crusty under there. I came into a parking lot with a wicked easement and I had some things start creaking and popping on me. Good times.

Because I live in the south and air conditioning. Besides, if I can drive it for another year or more it’ll get me into a good position. I’ll be done with college and can afford nicer junk.

Bent the tube bumper about an eighth of an inch.

Killed a sky blue convertible in my Jeep. Good times.

I totally agree with you, but this one has some gooooood rust right where the torsion beam rear-end meets the unibody. I’m almost at the point to stop trying to fix it and just let it die.

That’s where I’m at. It sucks.

I do what I can, but it’s not much/enough. It needed a water pump, which involves taking the front of the engine off. I had that done, along with a new timing chain tensioner to the tune of $900. Also front shocks and two window regulators. Needs halfshafts, rear springs and shocks, and tires. Always something...

I would love to be able to afford a car that’s not too far gone maintenance wise. I bought a ‘98 Cavalier z24 last year, and it’s cost me out the nose in repairs. The engine runs like a top, with 218k on it. Everything else is dying though. Darn shame, it’s kinda grown in me for a crappy little commuter car.

The way I describe it to others, and what it is in my mind: A car is American if the sale of said car adds to the U.S. gross national product. Same for Japanese, Korean, etc. If the money made from selling that vehicle goes back to a world headquarters somewhere other than the U.S., the vehicle is foreign.

I’m sweating just looking at that.
