The reason no one has been able to educate them is because decisions like that come from senior executives or not at all. One of them has to have a sudden change of heart and then start to build consensus around it. It’s Japanese culture to a tee. This wikipedia page is SUPER relevant here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wik

It sounds like a dash of both. SEGA obviously see enough in sales to push for PC to be a staple of their releases going forward, but at the same time if Judgement is to become the new Yakuza (I believe I read that Yakuza was staying RPG and Judgement was taking over as the beat em up series in the universe) they’d be

On the flip-side they could realize it is; just not realize it’s equally possible from consoles. (Also, PC “meddlers” are passionately stupid about their platform. I am sure they’ll do everything they can to target this games assets now out of spite.)

Everything I’ve ever read about Japanese companies has left me with the impression that they’re really, really resistant to adapting to the way the outside world is rapidly changing. They’re very much in the “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” mindset. Like, they’re still selling new Walkmans and cassette tapes, faxing

“Gross overreach” is pretty much the baseline for being a celebrity in Japan based on what I’ve seen and read. For example, anyone defined as an “idol” is often contractually not allowed to date (or at least be seen to date).

It’s also part of a pattern where the agency has near godlike control over their artists, to the point of harasment and individual liberties, such as PREVENTING their wounger stars from publisizing (or even HAVING) a date life.

I have generally found groups and agencies that behave like this are aware of what technology can do in a general sense, but are nigh catastrophically ignorant of the lengths said technology can go to get what it wants anyway.

While I kind of get your point, I don’t know how much I’m cheering that a talent agency is preventing artists from having almost no control over their own public image and interactions with the fanbase.

They could always make the main guy have closure of some kind in this game and then follow up with a different main character.

It’s idiotic regardless of their business model, as keeping a video game console exclusive is in no way preventing character model rips. To say nothing of how easy it is to take live action footage and use that for the purpose of creating deep fakes.

Which is a hilarious concern because people can rip that shit anyway or model their own if they need to. The Last of Us and God of War never found their way to PC and I’ve seen a hilarious amount of SFM memes with Ellie, Joel and Kratos (not to mention some very upsetting porn).

sounds like the talent agency just doesn’t want his character model ripped from the game files and used in SFM porn. this is understandable considering their business model.

Man, I hope Ichiban doesn’t join a boyband before Yakuza 8.

Wonder if they could incorporate some sort of collapsible shape into the mix. Not exactly like this, but similar in intent.
