I've always called this the "Wile E. Coyote Effect." Basically, someone randomly coming to harm isn't really all that funny. Watching someone perform a malicious (or at least irritating) act and then suffering either directly because of said maliciousness (like Wile E Coyote's backfiring gadgets) or because of some

Slappy Squirrel is a work of pure medium-aware genius and is probably the best segment on the show. Seriously, the idea of a "cartoon actor veteran" that knows and uses every cliche to her advantage is genius.

I think Freakazoid is so great partially because of how much fun the writers and the actors had with it. I've listened to the commentary tracks and it's great. They had a contest with another show to see who could land the most obscure celebrity for their cartoon. This culminated with an episode dedicated to Norm

Given the choice between the two, I'd choose Animaniacs (as well as their equally genius brethren Freakazoid and Pinky and the Brain) over Ren and Stimpy anyday.

If I had known there'd be Freakazoid references in this commentary, I would have shown up much, much sooner.

It's kind of weird how Spider-Man's outfit doesn't bother me at all.

You obviously haven't read it, because the edition of Encyclopedia Galactica that features that article hasn't fallen through the time warp yet.

I'm for this. I have a soft spot for Shakespear plays that don't end with corpses everywhere. Hamlet is good and all, but sometimes I just like watching everyone stand around and insult each other non-stop in a witty fashion.

Between what I've read on the man and visiting his estate, I'd say FDR was interesting enough to warrant several good movies, if done right.

I would watch 95-minutes of Nightcrawler, no problem.

Every Western parody of anime I know still revolves around:
1. Limited, stilted animation ala Speed Racer
2. Poor, mismatched dubbing, mostly ripped from kung-fu films
3. Big, watery eyes, big spiky hair, and bigger swords.

I have to agree. Castle of Cagliostro is a good place to start simply because it's very Western, for lack of a better term. It won't require you to look up any sort of cultural term to understand its plot.
