1997-Maat. The Ancient Egyptian concept of truth, justice and morality. I had to remove the apostrophe because most web services at that time did not allow non-alphabetic characters.

When my parents finally upgraded to a flat screen, the only place they could install the TV was over the fireplace with a very deep mantelpiece and a short distance to the couch. The installer they hired suggested a tilt mount, which would have them looking up at the TV. I vetoed that and found the Down & Out mount.

Something I’ve been pondering: if you were getting your first cell phone today, and had no idea how much data you might need or how many texts you might send, what phone would you buy and which carrier would you pick?

Make dinner and get a wee bit baked. Or is it the other way around?

Greece: During the economic meltdown, June 2015. Thought Athens would be the place to be. Wrong. Athens is truly heartbreaking. Half the population lives there (5 million). Shops closed, graffiti on every surface, bus after bus of tourists from cruise ships. It is broken, maybe beyond repair. You only need a day or so

My mom sent me a very similar recipe years ago, it came from a Heloise newspaper column. Various recipes is all over the internet, and not behind the CI paywall.

Traveling from Amsterdam to Marseille by train was a highlight of my trip; the views from the trains are amazing. Local train from Amsterdam to Brussels, TGV to Marseille. We found a killer last minute hotel deal right at the port and were in Marseille in time for dinner.

Cut throat it was not, but working as a data input operator at the IRS for six months in 1988 was close enough. A cross between a kindergarten and the U.S. military, it was soul sucking monotony, locked to a green screen CRT entering numbers all day. You had quotas to meet, little margin for errors. Too many mistakes

I’ve been using the freeze flat method for a long time. Lay them on waxed paper, freeze, fold and into a ziplock bag. Takes up less room in the freezer too. It’s a good way to portion control my bacon intake and pulling out a couple pieces for my Saturday breakfast or a quiche works great.

A lot of the reviewers have problems with uneven toasting, the unit not turning off when the door is opened? How has it worked for you?

Thanks to both of you for bringing up this issue. I have a followup question so I understand the update process that Microsoft is using.

Another lesson: Sometimes, you have to do things you loathe to get to do things that really matter. Murrow hated doing the “Person to Person” celebrity interviews, like this one with Liberace (watch Murrow’s face at the beginning)

I do look up recipes depending on the flavor I’m using, once I have a good one, it goes in my recipe file. Also, sometimes I just make a couple of servings. Granitas turn to glaciers if left too long in the freezer.

I have two:

Sometimes quitting isn’t an option and the only person I can report it to is oblivious to the offender’s behavior.

It was the Gemini missions. We watched them on our black and white Zenith TV, with Walter Cronkite on CBS. I was 6 or 7. We just could not believe that we could put someone in space and bring them back alive. It was a miracle.

Is that why Hubble hasn’t taken a clearer picture of it since the camera upgrade? I always wondered about that.

It’s brilliant.

Maybe I could suspend my disbelief more easily here, but this was very good TV. I trust USA to let it run, they do love them some quirky shows.

Facebook-I cannot calculate how little I care about the stuff people post there.
