Late to the party, but exactly. The worst servers I’ve ever encountered were and are the ones who make 15 an hour and don’t take tips.

Order of events?

In the best most expensive places in Europe, waiters are exclusively white men. The comparison is not possible here. Good servers earn far more than others via tips. In cities where minimum wages for tipped workers are the same as nontip workers. The best tip workers get penalized as a service charge is added on

When you start using “research by activist” for news, and you find out that his research shows racism and sexism....what’s next?

News Flash: Cobbler says shoe repair is important to society!

Your “the racist attitude is summed up here” quote is quite possibly the most biased thing you could have pulled. I looked up the original article (“Tips and Commissions” by John Speed in Lipincott’s, 1902), and I was completely unsurprised that the author was a Southerner at a time when racism ran even deeper in the

Now your comment implies that the nonwhite employees had a problem with the tipping system. But the article doesn’t support this other than *some* nonwhite employees’ claims. In fact, it says that a Mexican immigrant also defended the management’s policy.

Sports writers have a porn-like problem: there are far too many writers who will display their work for free (or near free) on websites in the hope that they will be able to monetize their work in the future. The number of those type of people far out number those who will refuse to work until they are paid a living

What are you talking about? SB Nation has some of the least toxic, healthiest sports communities online... Arrowheadpride.com is fantastic, with original analysis and content that puts any other “sports news” site to shame.

As an unpaid contributor to a (somewhat) popular site, I’m going to sue to get taken out of the greys.

It depends on the team, but SB Nation is far, far above Bleacher Report with regard to quality.

No more tipping for me. I am woke!

the jurors for this case are going to be paid more than SB Nation site managers

New Gawker commenters don’t appreciate subtlety and humor like Old Gawker commenters.

From now on, instead of tipping money, I will just write out the link to that Mother Jones article and explain that I cannot, in good faith, continue to tip and thus endorse such a horrendous practice.

Who the hell has hopes that esports would be in the Olympics?

The real issues, despite the nonsense spouted about nonviolence, are a) the four-year gap between Olympics and b) that video games belong to specific corporations.

esports are the opposite of the Olympic tradition - and comparing fencing to mowing down virtual opponents with machine guns is just fucking stupid

My biggest concern for it is that video games constantly change. Records would be impossible to keep as older games were thrown out and newer ones come in. It’s hard to keep a stable field if the game itself is constantly changing.

Imagine, something that’s not a sport or even a physical activity in any conceivable way not being included in a sporting competition. Maybe they should consider mathletes next.

Good. Wow, these players can play a video game well. Who cares. They aren’t athletes. It would be an absolute disgrace to the Olympics’ truly amazing history and tradition, with inspiration from the Greek games, if “esports” were allowed in.
