Elaborate, please - I’m not sure what you mean. The married-filed-jointly column is just the single column x 2 for each bracket except the highest, which sees a significant penalty for being married. What more would you like to see to make it more fair for single taxpayers?

IDK where you live, but in Michigan, $79k is a respectable wage. It’s certainly enough to purchase a $150K house (which would be a pretty nice house around these parts), lease a couple of new vehicles or purchase something a few years old, and still have plenty of money left for bills and savings. The income that counts is after standard deduction so really it’s 79+24 or a little over $103. Including 401k and health care deductions, the average couple at the bottom of that range is probably grossing around 110-115.

People with a household income of $79k are doing just fine.. that puts them above the median household income in the US. Let’s talk about those who are making less than the median.

Truth has been spoken. I had an ‘06 Sti, bought it at 105k miles, sold it at 120k 5 years later. Unbelievably I sold it for ~2k more than I paid.

Why pay $25,000 for a Buick wagon when you can spend $50,000 for a Volvo wagon?

If I’m buying a 25k Buick wagon, I’m not cross-shopping a Volvo wagon, because on that level of income I’d also theoretically like to eat and pay my light bill.
