NYC has some great bagels, but let’s not ignore the fact that those are the exception. There are a lot more places to buy some plastic-wrapped mediocre bagel with a solid half-inch block of cream cheese.

I can’t keep a houseplant alive for anything. I’ve had a sourdough starter for more than 10 years. It lives in the fridge. I feed it when I make bread (roughly weekly), but it has gone unfed for 3 weeks and comes right back from inattention. I keep waiting for it to croak, but is hasn’t.
