Instead, you have people actively choosing not to be part of unions unless they absolutely have to. Why?

It’s another part of police culture - they circle the wagons and protect their own. It seems to be extremely difficult to be one of the good guys and report wrongdoing up the ladder because the entire system is corrupt and has the mentality that they must protect their own - even when they’re in the wrong.

I’ve seen plenty of discussions that are entirely civil, even if they don’t start out that way. I’ll also add that I read all comments, even the grays, and I’m sure I’m not the only one.

But here’s the thing - the police union’s response redirects the argument and fails to address what Kaepernick is trying to raise in the first place - much like the “offensive to vets” nonsense. The fact is that the Powers-That-Be won’t even acknowledge that there is a racial problem.

Dammit! My stupid brother-in-law works on a Soul Plane and he says the undercoating is a scam. Now I don’t know what to believe!

Ah...see...there’s your problem. Shoulda gone with Jim Belushi. That guy’s really...something.

RedZone is how I like to watch my football.

What are owls always graduating from? Or is it just a hipster “I’m wearing this hat to be different” thing?

Before going out you should definitely tune in Tokyo.

It’s OK, trust me, your grandmother was comfortable with just about anything.

I’m pretty liberal and I disagree with most of what the GOP stands for and how they approach things. At the same time, both parties are invested in maintaining the current two party power structure. At the national level the difference between the two sides of the aisle are not significant - they just pay lip service

Francis Scott Key was describing a battle, but the song and the flag are not specific tributes to the military. And thank god for that. We are not a military dictatorship.

Very well said.

You are correct about flag-folding at funerals. My dad was a veteran and that was very emotional for us at his service.

I no longer live within easy distance to any ballpark, but I lived in LA for a long time and my wife and I went to many, many Dodgers games. And yes, even fickle, indifferent LA fans would stand and have fun singing that song.

Thank you, Poodog. I never served but many in my family have and not one of them has gotten fussy about feeling “disrespected” by Kaepernick.

I can’t stand BS like this. Neither the flag nor the national anthem are military tributes. We are not saluting the military when we look at the flag and we aren’t singing to the glory of the military when we mumble through The Star Spangled Banner at sporting events.

Not wanting Trump as president is not the same thing as “repressing free speech” - it’s other people expressing their opinion.

Agreed - it didn’t even look close to me. He was robbed.

True - good point. He wouldn’t have pursued it without a good amount of ownership support.
