The difference here is that the readers of the AV Club generally didn't find this particular joke to be offensive and genuinely don't believe she should apologize, as the joke was about the concept of whitewashing rather than "look at this white girl playing a Native American woman".

This is the one dumb internet fad that always works on me, without fail.

Goodbye, Dragon Inn is my favorite but The River, I Don't Want to Sleep Alone, and Stray Dogs are all great. Stray Dogs pushes his style to the limit, though. There are several ten-minute-long shots in that thing.

My question is, who is this for? Who's going to come out and buy a ticket to this thing? Nautical enthusiasts and the elderly?

I've been meaning to read this book for a couple of years, but thankfully now there's a movie version and I can just watch that and continue to say I'm going to read the book but never actually do it.
