I saw it in with my husband last night (in IMAX). I know Dune forwards and backwards to the extent that I could predict every story beat and many lines of dialogue, and he has next to zero familiarity with it, having never read the books or seen any previous adaptations. We both loved it. Granted, we are both big

I was disappointed by the portrayal of Lady Jessica. In the books she’s strong, independent and always in control, even when somewhat under the thumb of the Bene Gesserit. In this film she’s weepy and fearful and constantly talks in breathy whispers, probably one of my least favourite movie tropes. Literally nobody in

1000+ Pimp points for Sting at the time.

While I think Ferguson gave a capable performance, I think she and the director let Jessica be a bit too... fragile, perhaps? At times she seems almost paralyzed by fear, which doesn’t feel right for the character. She’s supposed to be a badass Bene Gesserit with superhuman levels of discipline, complete command over

Funny you should mention pamphlets because back in 1984 ...

Agreed. The seats shaking from the sound during key parts of the movie made it worth the ticket price. The visuals were fantastic as well. Now I will watch it repeatedly on HBO Max.

The new Dune is light years better than Lynch’s.

I watched it at home (with my good surround setup and sub) and as I was walking my dog last night I could tell which neighbors were watching it without looking (through their open windows—I live in a neighborhood where one can see others TVs from the street without trying). I was humming the Zimmer brown note sound and

Dune’s target audience probably skews older than your average blockbuster, so people might not be rushing out to see it on a Thursday or Friday night. I bet it's Sunday numbers are better than expected.

Dune is one of my favorite books, and for decades I’d lost hope of ever seeing a good movie of it. This is everything I ever wanted, and my best theater experience since Lord of the Rings. Seriously, the sound design is so much a deliberate part of the package you’re doing yourself a severe disservice watching on HBO

I saw it yesterday and really liked it. Had Villeneuve’s signature slow-paced style, which was really refreshing, as it meant a lot of time to become grounded in all the worldbuilding. It’s really well-cast (which is easy to see from the outset). I think it also benefits from a different style, and much, much better

“You expect me to believe that Kate Moss, an extremely thin human, somehow contains the machinery to manufacture another living creature, as well as the machinery to cause her to be able to deliver it.”

Yeah I expect a lot more realism in my movies about autonomous robots that are physically indistinguishable from human beings.

Remember, Blade Runner is a dystopia. Clearly they use MMDDYY.

RIP Rachael.  -sob-

It’s still amazing to me that this movie flopped so hard in the theaters. Even ignoring the sequel part of it, it's just a really well made movie.

I saw this movie by myself in a Dolby Atmos theater with like two other people on a Saturday afternoon and it’s definitely in my top 5 best theater experiences. This movie absolutely explodes on a big screen. Good stuff. Also a little disappointed that actual 2021 isn't even close to the blade runner version

It doesn’t look out of place among Aliens and Fury Road on the list of best belated SF sequels of all time.
