It’s probably the same programmer/designers creating the controls from game to game, and even if not, they’re reusing a lot of the same code. I would guess the wonkyness comes from what they’re trying to accomplish with the controls, which is to combine player control with an object that has physics working on it,

There’s a mathematical aspect to this too, I’ve encountered it before and it’s infuriating — some people don’t understand how randomness works. For example they think that if you flip a coin a bunch it should come up, heads tails heads tails etc. But true randomness isn’t uniform, and you’re likely to see runs of one

My very first thought was Hissing Fauna! But for me the sequence is definitely Heimdalsgate like a Promethean Curse -> Grolandic Edit -> A Sentence of Sorts.

Mirrors Edge got an official 2d platformer version back in the flash heydays. Iirc it was by the guy who made Fancy Pants and it was excellent. It really captured the feel of the 3d game and I remember spent a good amount of time playing it
