Well they’ve definitely calculated this as a risk worth taking, an investment in Russia’s strategic interests otherwise why would you undertake such a distraction with economic headaches at home.

Wonder if, even at the smallest level there was some calculation about what effect direct Russian involvement in the region would have on OPEC, and most specifically Saudi. It’s no secret the plummeting prices knocked the wind out of Russian oil production. I’d be interested to know if the Saudi’s have issued any…
