Yea I mean this involves woc so why should anyone care?

*sigh*

And I’m sure no one who cares about the VRA could possibly care about racist beauty standards. (Or vice versa.)

it would be like 77% less sexy if the stockings were more opaque and didn’t have the fake garters. It’s the fake garters that really say “lingerie” about this costume.

Male perspective here, those outfits are over the top especially for HS. young ladies.... I get dancers need to move around, the top half of the uniforms are pretty standard. But those leggings sure look like lingere stockings with the garter belt... Also modeling a uniform after a Nerds sexuaul dream girl in a video

Frankly, the example with the little white girls unsettled me way more. The black kids are at least teens in high school, so they know and understand the concept of sexuality and all that. Those white kids are tiny and they are dressed exactly the same way an adult woman looking to titillate would be. It’s incredibly

Well they should have more clothes on...issa high school. You’re comparing grown women who may be up to 24 years old to girls as young as 14 or 15. And its not the amount of clothes really, its the styling. Those particular stockings look like lingerie, they just do, and that’s too much for a school sponsored event

sub-counterpoint; they heard it on the news and believed it because they’re racists and morons.

Why mention Black Lives Matter on a replacement marker that has nothing to do with race and everything about a region’s cultural legacy. It’s as if white people know their excuses are nonsense but are too cowardly to admit what they know to be their racist inclinations.

Requisite comment about how Ohio fought on the side of the Union to defeat Lee. But I guess racial resentment trumps history.

Almost all clothing is decoration and disguise and societies often have developed associations between certain constructions and expected interactions. A simple white coat is associated with laboratory work and physicians. Black shirt with small white collar - clergy. Tutus, leotards with dance shoes or bare feet -

LOL they are *ACTUAL* twins. I have never made this joke and had that be the answer. I don’t even know how to feel now.

None of the little white girls are wearing stockings so her comparison doesn’t really work. In the conservative town where my parents live, parents would have a problem with white girls wearing stockings like that too.

They are high school girls. It’s the garter detail that I think pushes it from interesting to iffy. If the tights didn’t have the cutouts or they didn’t have the tights at all, I think it would be perfectly okay. No more/less skin, just less styling by Frederick’s of Hollywood.

Yeah, I’m not bothered by the leotards as dance wear, that’s standard , but as a former dancer, this shit is UNCOMFORTABLE to perform in. The stockings though? Hell no. I look at the “dance” teams my friends have their tiny daughters attend and I’m appalled. 3,4,5,6,7 year old girls dressed like strippers and giving

Thank you! I cannot understand why people are defending these costumes. And I hate the “white people do it” argument. Just becasue someone else is doing it doesn’t make it at all okay. It’s like saying if white people let their kids jump off a bridge then black girls should also be allowed to jump off bridges

I’m guessing it’s the garter and stockings that are the issue. That’s what stuck out to me at least as being really inappropriate for a high school cheer squad.; it’d be fine without that inclusion. It’s those bits that distinguish their costumes from those of the white dancers/gymnasts shown.

Uh yeah, its a HS dance team not a bunch of Reno hookers.

I’m sorry but this is bull&$&*. Why are we making excuses for sexualizing girls? There are literally THOUSANDS of other outfits these girls could wear and still show off their choreography. This is clearly an attempt to make them look sexy.

If this were college, I’d be the first one saying that people should mind their own business, because even if they were still young, they’d be grow-ass legal adults. But we’re talking about children, here, which is why I can definitely see an argument being made that these costumes are “too sexy.” I can see an
