Striking isn’t forcing anything as employers can then hire scabs, which they often do. Striking is a negotiating tactic that unions reserve as a last resort. Unions don’t force employers to pay anyone anything.

Unions don’t force wages. Unions negotiate wages with employers on behalf of their workers. The fact that employers negotiate with a single entity to set job standards across the board actually helps employers by making it so they don’t have to negotiate salary/benefits with every single hire.
