Also, like, at this point, I would imagine the majority of the players in OW2 bought it as OW1. OW1 was executed to make way for “OW2", which in light of the PVE cancellation was effectively a large OW1 update. So for many people, Overwatch is/was not free.

I guess it matters who you are trying to look cool for. But my 2 cents is that:

Necromancy in Skyrim also had these similar vibes. Yes in the lore technically necromancy was not as frowned upon as it was in previous entries. But almost nothing in the actual world reflected that. (It also handled the concept of dragons strangely)
