This! As soon as you use something to take on the load that the surrounding muscles should be supporting they are not being exercised and will weaken making the whole situation worse.

I had an ankle problem in high school and wore a brace. My doctor told me to stop because the brace was artificially supporting the muscles and causing them to atrophy so they wouldn’t be as strong. I ditched it and the ankle got better much faster.
