Normally I would agree, but considering they advertised it as being more than just a graphical upgrade, showed off stuff that was more than a graphical upgrade, and then didn't actually deliver on that stuff, I think criticism is warranted here.

The price is fair for what they originally promised. The problem is, they scaled back the remaster without scaling back the price.

The Abyss had a lot of hype because of its budget and cutting-edge effects, so other studios greenlit their own competing underwater projects for the same year. Studios used to be super into that kind of high-budget competition (see also: Volcano/Dante’s Peak, Armageddon/Deep Impact, Mission to Mars/Red Planet, etc).
