The older Land Rovers are ALL OVER Iceland. Basically every outdoor expedition company is rocking the old LR's or ridiculously lifted F-150's and Expeditions. Hell I saw a lifted Suburban doing doughnuts in a lava field while I was there. Thought for sure I was watching a Darwin moment in progress.

Ehhh. I'd say they're slightly different demographics. The types of people that buy Summits and Overlands? Yeah, you might be able to sway them. But Jeep has a really strong culture and ridiculously loyal fans, I don't know that you're breaking into that with one car.
Another thing in favor of the JGC over the DS is maintenance costs. You can get a lifetime service contract for a new JGC for approximately $2100~ which covers everything except for belts, brakes, fluids, and tires. I didn't see anything like that when I cross-shopped Land Rover.
