Sadly, it does seem like the pandemic ruined the Pixar brand. Kids have now been conditioned to get these movies instantly whenever they want instead of going to the theater. And it doesn’t help that the quality seems to have suffered at exactly the same time (Onward, Lightyear, just too many sequels).
One word titles are geared towards gender neutral marketing. Disney, for example, renamed Rapunzel to Tangled and renamed The Snow Queen to Frozen to make it seem like it wasn’t princess based.
Those connections to our world seems to be the missing ingredient between the good ideas and the basic ones. And even then, the gimmick is a well they’ve gone to too many times. In fact, it’s devolved. Now it’s just: What if the afterlife in Soul is run like the 9-5 corporate businesses we recognize? What if the TVA…
The trailer looked horrible and as much as I love those Tim Burton Batman movies I don’t want to see a CGI Michael Keaton flipping around like Yoda from Attack of the Clones.
So many people are responding to this with “Marvel needs to vet its actors more,” like they’re going to put a sexual assault no one knows about on their resume.
If Hollywood could figure out a way to make limited-edition, foil-embossed hologram movies bagged and boarded, they’d jump on that too.
Even the blip “deaths” had a lot of emotional weight for me, because I saw them through the eyes of the characters witnessing them. Obviously we know that they’re coming back, but they don’t know that, so I can feel their horror at the proceedings. This even carried through past Endgame, for flashbacks like Yelena’s…
So Schumer was asked to leave the project because her version was not feminist
Yeah, it mattered to ten-year-old me a lot. I edited out a paragraph about how teenage me read A Game of Thrones and reacted with a mere “wow” to Ned Stark’s death. Although really, my point was not that story deaths aren’t affecting (of course they are), but that subsequent resurrections don’t somehow erase those…
I worked with Bill Hader and John Mulaney on a commercial shoot about 13 years ago (Bill insisted Mulaney be hired to help write/pitch jokes) and both of them were as nice and professional and fun to work with as you would hope.
I believe Cavill has aged roughly 10 years in the 10 years since MoS.
“a fan-service epilogue has the answer which, without spoiling anything, indicates an expansion of the series’ cinematic universe.”
Or do you?
It wasn’t me, I never said the song was pro-gaslighting.
This was embarassing to read
It can’t be worse than Steven Seagal.
It made 209 million dollars on opening weekend. Maybe you have adblock or are mostly streaming?
You’re right; that is definitely a ridiculous reason. Trailers were everywhere you’d expect trailers to be, for quite a long time now.
“For all that the movie concerns itself with the idea of a rigid Spider-Man canon that defines these character’s stories, it betrays its real heart with these choices”
