I think the term high school movie refers more to the stage of life of the characters, not the actual setting.

really enjoyed this movie, and as someone who thought Split, Glass and The Visit were all a riot, it’s definitely his best in years

He did! It's called Spy Kid!

“I don’t use the word ‘hero’ very often, but these studio executives trying to scrape up a little more cash are the greatest heroes in human history.”

I look forward to reading the AVClub’s article two years from now:

Idk The Batman was pretty good?

Kay.

I literally can’t imagine a movie so bad that it would somehow make DC’s reputation worse than it already is. Even if it somehow did look much worse than the worst Arrowverse stuff, you still have to account for the fact that a good 80% of the Arrowverse is really quite terrible. That’s already DC’s reputation. I’m

Ariana Grande? What, is there a rom-com subgenre for being a grown woman who still acts and talks like she’s 12? Hard pass.

You know what the MCU had going for it when it launched? There had been no Iron Man movies. Or Thor. Or Captain America. Or Doctor Strange. Or Guardians of the Galaxy. It was, with the exception of the Hulk and Spider-Man movies, relatively fresh and largely unexplored.

So to be honest there IS a lot of variety there. There was no way they were going to convince DC to ignore Superman and Batman entirely. You are getting Swamp Thing, Supergirl, and The Authority, and a bunch of stuff on streaming. Nice to finally get Robin back, maybe with a much better take than in the past. I only

How else do you make a DCU work? The obvious playbook is to do a Superman and then a Batman and then have the two of them meet and then they meet Wonder Woman and Green Lantern and stuff and then they form the Justice League. The Snyderverse failed in nearly every element of execution — they never even got Superman

Well, if this doesn’t just kill the genre outright, we’ll know that it’s an indestructible cockroach.

Look, I’m as delighted as anyone that I get to be insufferable about my physical media library. But as corporations introduced their own streaming services and lured viewers with original content, there was a clear assumption that the original content would be available in perpetuity. Maybe that’s naive, but it’s not

Following a lackluster sequel that he did not direct

“Innocent until proven guilty” is only a tenet of the justice system, it’s not something you’re required to hold to on personal opinions of celebrities.

also “twitter discourse” has absolutely no actionable effect on real life, especially when it comes to movies

honestly it feels like James Cameron made a pact with a demon that he would be continually making the highest-grossing film ever but that he would never be recognized for it.

Movie nerds: I’m so tired of superheroes and live-action Disney remakes, why can’t they just give my favourite filmmaker like half a billion dollars to make a vibes-only epic that will be artistically beholden to nobody but my darling auteur and will either be some amazing shit or the kind of cult favourite where we

those absolute fools who predicted Guardians of the Galaxy 1 would be where “Marvel fatigue” finally caught up to them and ended the MCU.
