pretty funny that the only two things with set release dates in this new universe are:

it has the cultural footprint of people convincing themselves it has no cultural footprint, and constantly bring it up as having no cultural footprint.

yeah that’s my point - normal people like them and watch them the way normal people watch movies. they sell tickets, not funko pops.

well my point was more that those artists have much more outsized, decades-longer legacies and more songs.

i really wonder how successful this will be. i presume most winehouse fans are old/young enough to remember the reality, and wouldn’t support what appears to be such a milquetoast take.

yeah the reason agatha popped was because people already liked her so much. shit, agatha isn’t even her first marvel character.

also, maybe they didn’t give you another black panther movie right away, but black panther had already been introduced in a previous movie (civil war) and had 2 appearances set up after it in different movies (the avengerses).

they could have banged out a ‘special event’ or whatever they call them in 6 months. taking almost 5 years is a total unforced error.

100% agreed. there was a moment to capitalize on and that was like 2 and a half years ago.

is it better or just differently bad?

could be i’m misremembering (it’s also tough to google since every result is the early netflix deal you’re mentioning), but i thought she got thrown the bag by max and has only done the few acting jobs since. might just be impatience on my end haha.

they did genuinely hit a sweet spot. the chris rock one was an incredible monologue. also always felt like summer was starting. a summer awards show is kind of underrated.

people REALLY need to realize avatar connects with normal people who have healthy relationships with art, which is exactly why so many freaks who don’t are turned off by its success and don’t see it as authentic.

i don’t buy that. the point with comedies is that they’re cheap, and when one becomes a breakout hit it balances out the 10 that didn’t. it’s the same with horror. there used to be a consistent theatrical track for both there.

yeah it’s funny. the prequels are worse individual movies but it’s a better ‘trilogy’ and fits within star wars a lot better. the sequel trilogy feels better in the moment (in general) but when you look back there’s a lot ‘wait what?’

oh cmon that’s more fun than the article!

looks wild i can’t wait.

nail on head. it was an arms race to lock them down. netflix did the same thing with comedic actors and now comedies barely come out theatrically anymore.

makes me wonder if they’re gonna coincidentally be ‘too busy’ to finish the next verse movie because of this.

i really fucking hate how these streaming companies locked down all these creatives for years and we got nothing from it. michaela coel same thing.
