love the idea that anyone would be familiar with something from the new mutants movie.

it wasn’t entirely successful, but they way they did long-form storytelling across multiple episodes/seasons was pretty groundbreaking in hindsight.

oh he’s definitely put out dogshit, but ‘hack’ is a bridge way too far for a guy with that resume. more than anything he makes interesting choices and i respect that a lot. even road house is an interesting choice...in a bad way haha.

i think we really lost something when we stopped giving low-level villains monster truck fleets (see also: tango and cash)

was genuinely sort of looking forward to this (i like gyllenhaal and especially liman when he hits), but i can’t say i’m shocked a 2024 road house remake isn’t very good.

liman isn’t a hack. he’s unreliable but he’s also delivered multiple stone cold classics.

based on what the article says i think saying the movie says he’s innocent is different than ignoring, but that means i also have to take an av club article at its word haha.

yeah, to go out of their way to write him as innocent instead of just...making a movie that ends in 1982 or whatever is very...well let’s say ‘confident’.
