Got into a heated discussion via twitter yesterday (side not: I'm a fucking idiot) with someone whose argument boiled down to, "well, what do you suggest as a viable, effective alternative?"

Not child abuse? What exactly would you call stuffing a child's mouth with leaves and lashing him on the legs and scrotum with a tree branch then?

"Say what you will about the Bible, but it generally does not advise that a person should be a raving narcissist/egomaniac"

I didn't have a timeout chair, but instead was sent to my room for usually 30 minutes or so. Those time-outs would stretch into hours because I was having fun drawing and drumming on my legs along with the radio.

You're right - I don't know hunting dogs, so I will leave that expertise to you. And growing up we used the "gentle leader" - type leash that wraps around a dog's nose on our rottweiler, which I guess is the same principal. Still, I'm not sure I think it's a fair comparison.

Yes now I am the ignorant bad guy because I don't child abuse.

Just a sample of the research out there that you can read for free:

I worked as a camp counselor for five summers, and I'd like to think I was pretty good at it. To your point, it was pretty easy to point out the most disfunctional cabins were also the ones with the counselors who were prone to outbursts of anger and yelling at their campers in moments that could have been used as

If that's the case then I'd say Phil is still in his transformative period

Instead of spending a few hours a week teaching them how to walk on a leash like normal, decent human beings.

Oh Brian, Champion of Child Abuse. Good for you.

"Now there is a difference between Abuse and a beating. They are not one in the same. Abuse is above and beyond."

He writes about his kids seemingly every week. He's written a book on parenting you can buy here. He mentions in this very column that he has kids.

Haven't watched either week, except for having an early CBS game on week one while I napped.

A-fucking-men. This shit is so ingrained in Football with a capital F.

I just had in my mind that I had read pieces recently about people boycotting the NFL now, but mostly they were about people reconciling with all of this shit while still watching games.

I just googled "NFL" and "Boycott" to drum up some links to throw at you, but one of the top five results was a link to Info Wars, so fuck me I guess.

The only way it happens is if advertisers/sponsors start pulling support of the league, a la Donald Sterling.
