Huh. I'm from Bloomington too. I think close to half of my high school's graduating class and more than half of South's graduating class went to IU. I ended up going to a small school in Ohio about 45 minutes west of Columbus, and there were plenty of Wal-Mart Buckeyes. I think it's characteristic of all big schools.
