I just watched The Untouchables this weekend (part of a museum show). Copaganda and pro war on drugs may not cut it any more.
I recently saw Come and See (again) at Lincoln Center. It was part of a series of movies put together by Jordan Peele. The short beforehand was Thriller.
I totally agree with this. If you want to appeal an outcome or sentence from a lower court you won’t be getting a new trial - the higher court will look at the record and if it is unclear you are out of luck.
Great list. Dead of Night is a wonderful film, a little something for everyone - gothic, comedy, madness, meta. Good stuff.
Not sure if it was mentioned, but you can ask a subscriber. I get the Washington Post and the NYT and both allow me to “gift” a number of articles per month. I don’t live near DC, but an annual electronic Post subscription is $40.
I’m old so I remember this 23 year old article about robots making sushi. https://www.nytimes.com/1998/02/26/technology/yo-robot-i-ll-have-some-sushi-and-a-beer.html
I like the MFK Fisher allusion.
Whatever one thinks of Meghan McCain, she will likely be replaced by another conservative host. See this article from a few years back in the NYT Magazine that notes that the View loses viewers when it doesn’t have a conservative host. https://www.nytimes.com/2019/05/22/magazine/the-view-politics-tv.html Gotta sell…
I use it in my professional writing. After all, mistakes were made.
A good book that includes excellent writing on offal is A.J. Liebling’s Between Meals.
I use the Simple bank. It is an on line bank and allows me to set up recurring expenses for which it takes a regular amount from my paycheck. It is essentially an online envelope system.
I recently saw this list of everything that could be in a financial advise column:
If it is a teen with a phone, how about a password manager. LastPass has a family plan.
I purchased a microwave for my mother. It was her first. It was a number of years ago.
If I don’t go to a car wash how do I wash the undercarriage of my car after they lay down the salt?
My mother says that if you get a single recipe from a cookbook it is a plus - so get them from the library.
I had a rabbi once who put it in guacamole.
Anyone who reads this article should also read Rich’s excellent memoir “Ghost Light”
