An in-great-shape close to stock XJ is a great highway cruiser. But then you drive almost any other vehicle and realize there are far better options.

Right on, thanks for the advice.

Yea, I know its kind of a shit show, a few of the guys I’m going with have gone twice already. That’s why we planned the dates the way we did. Will do, we’ll probably blast out of there when we land but we want to check out the TLC museum before we leave.

A XJ on waggy 44s and 35s, a LJ Rubi on 35s, 4 RZR rentals, the Dodge 3500 tow pig and a rental 15 passenger Transit from SLC to Moab. I think I’ll be ok. We’re staying till Wednesday after the end of the event so we can run the trails we want. 3/23-3/30.

Bazinga

Just post on Pirate4x4. There are a bunch of people there that will help.

Ha! True, but I’m renting a RZR XP1000 when I get there in a week and a half and you bet your ass I’m going to have a blast. Did the drive once, it’ll be worth it to make the 2,200 mile trip home 35k above sea level instead of trying to figure out what that noise my truck just made was.

Or just RENT something in Moab. Like everyone else.

I did it in a built 93 XJ in 201o, almost 10k miles total coast to coast with LOTS of wheeling in between. I beat to poor gal to within an inch of her life but I made it home. In a stock/near stock XJ it should be as simple as turn the key and go, but this guy made it a point to buy the biggest piece of shit he could

Seriously. This seems hilariously under-planned for a blog of this amount of page views and a guy who apparently was a FCA engineer. I’ll see you when you get there, maybe.

5th Gear: See you there.

Man, I miss those roads.

My 21 year old Land Rover has an outstanding recall on the fuel vent hose. I’ve been half-tempted to get it fixed just so I could get a Evoque loaner for a day.

Eh. Depends. With 3/4 or 1 ton leaf springs, they’re fine. With this truck? Needs a traction bar for sure.

That was some serious axle wrap before the shaft let go.

I’ll go ahead and assume blowing the motor at 140k is definitely a con.

Not necessarily. You could have bought a new BMW 1M a coupe years ago, put 30-40k miles on it and kept it nice and sold it tomorrow for the same price you bought it for.

Relax, Buzz Killington

None taken, it isn’t my car. It’s probably the last color I’d pick (especially with the white vinyl top) but it is stunning in person.

TJs came in teal for a year or two
