Erm, Ellen and Ben aren't fictional.
I always feels like I miss so much but not watching as much TV as everyone else (I still watch a lot, but I've never seen many of the big prestige dramas from the last decade).
He's going by US release dates. It was released in the US in June of this year, not January, so it was very eligible. Ehrlich just didn't like it that much:
Orphan Black went from being a near-great series in season 1, to a vaguely watchable but dumb show that seemed to exist only to give Maslany increasingly silly acting challenges.
I dunno. As he says in the article, he likes a lot of shitty music. His favorite band is Chicago. CHICAGO!
Yes, I'm sensing we disagree on that.
I've listened to it plenty, trying to love it. It's okay. Seeds is better.
I agree, they're totally a singles band, but man, those singles are great. All you need is Psychocandy in its entirety (including Some Candy Talking), plus the singles from their other albums and a few killer B-Sides, and you're all set.
There's lots of great stuff! Careful You's great, and the chorus to Ride, as another example, is positively transcendent. And it's made even better by the fact that doesn't hit until nearly four minutes into the song.
Listen a few more times. This is way better than Nine Types of Light, at the very least. Three of the last four songs (Winter/Lazerray/Seeds) are among the best they've ever written. Is it as good as Dear Science or Cookie Mountain? No, but that's a pretty high bar to reach. Personally, I'd also rate it ahead of…
It makes more sense in context. Still not a great short.
I went to a screening tonight with some of the directors there in person, and apparently some of the instructions they received included: 1) That whoever did the first film (A is for…) had to make something fun, that 2) The first three films had to be in English (which sounds a little xenophobic, but i bet helps them…
No, because then I would've put her in Seasons 1-3 as well.
Oh wow, I guess you're right then. Sure showed me. Who knew the guest star with ten minutes of screen time was single-handedly responsible for a sixteen episode season of television disappointing some people?
No she didn't.
He's claiming Carpenter wasn't a fan of horror, and that he came to it, circa Halloween, because horror movies are profitable, and brought the artistic touch of someone who was "outside" the genre. Not a fan of a genre doesn't mean "has never made a horror film."
I dunno, there are a lot of bad rock songs about rocking, but at least 50 percent of the songs Carrie Brownstein writes are about that, and they are all awesome.
Joss Whedon, Bong Joon-Ho, The National.
