Writing and directing credits don't have anything to do with who is or isn't the showrunner though. Berg absolutely was the showrunner for the early seasons. He stepped away when he got busy with other projects and Clay Tarver is the current showrunner.
Katie Wheeler? The GQ writer is Caity Weaver. So close!
I mostly agree with all this except Style is also a really great pop song.
I would also say Eli Roth, though I would pick HOSTEL. I hate all his other movies, his acting, and his whole general vibe, but I love the first HOSTEL movie and will always defend it. I think it's smart and clever and scary and only becomes a dumb Eil Roth movie in its last few minutes. HOSTEL for life.
Nah, the Spoon record is fantastic.
This was the biggest debate amongst my fellow seventh graders that summer: MI or The Rock? Everyone loved both, but most loved The Rock more. These days I might go with MI, though.
This was the best interview of the week so far. Great, thoughtful, answers.
So many great songs on that one. Pink Slips, On a Balcony, It Was My Season, Stay Young, Down Down the Deep River. Love it.
No Blues might be my favorite LC album (or just behind RIB), and Hello Sadness is by far my least favorite.
Yeah Away is really good, though a departure for them.
Both great bands but personally I prefer The Thermals live.
I agree with all that, I just think Personal Life was when they made the shift from "absolutely essential" to "sorta fun but forgettable."
All good songs (I still like IAVF and I don't think they could make a BAD album), but to me that record is hurt by two things: 1) Overproduction. One of those "self-produced and it shows" records. And 2) The shift in the lyrics. I admire Sheff trying something knew but I missed the more story-centric lyrics and…
Late period Okkervil River is still really good. I Am Very Far IS probably their weakest album though.
The Thermals incredible 2000s trilogy of Fuckin' A, The Body the Blood the Machine, and Now We Can See made me a massive fan (I like their debut too but it was a bit too lo-fi for my tastes… I also know the general consensus is that Now We Can See was not as good as The Body but I liked it even more0. But it felt…
Whoa, I had no idea Julie Benz was the As Good as it Gets receptionist lady. Thanks, Random Roles.
I hate the Pirates movies (even the first one), but I'd say anyone who has the skill to make THE RING, RANGO and THE WEATHER MAN is pretty far from a hack.
It's not quite at No Blues' level but is still very very good, "A Slow, Slow Death" is the standout to me.
Home video hell is back? Can Commentary Tracks of the Damned return too?
