Still the best TV fight scene I've ever seen. I even prefer it a very similar showdown in Kill Bill Vol. 1.
2. Writers over the age of 23.
Hey, fair enough if you've seen and didn't like Buffy. My beef was more with the people who'd call him a one-hit wonder without having seen that which is generally regarded as his best work.
Zach Whedon wrote "the hammer is my penis." YOU GOT THE WRONG WHEDON.
I haven't read much X-Men outside of Whedon's run, but without that context I thought his stuff stood on its own. Especially the first arc, "Gifted," and the final arc, with Kitty's sacrifice play. The one with the sentient Danger Room, maybe not so much.
I think both the criticism of Avengers and your overall take on his abilities are correct.
Yeah, that's fair. I think Late Registration has some of Kanye's very best stuff, but it's bloated for sure. I feel like 2014 Kanye would have trimmed that thing way down (tellingly, it was his last album to contain skits).
I disagree with your assessment of the movie, other than agreeing it's not Whedon's peak (seriously, has no one here seen Buffy? I mean, Innocence? Becoming? Doppelgangland? Hush? Restless? The Gift? The Body? Anyone?)
That's insane. It was Whedon's idea, he brought Goddard in to write it with him. He produced it, and was a hands on producer, on set every day. He cast it with regulars from his shows. He co-wrote it. The whole thing is in his voice. It is absolutely part of the Whedon cannon. He's been riffing on horror since…
Roses weak? That's in my top three on the album. I'm with you on the others though.
He's good in Mission: Impossible III.
Screw Big Fish, but what about Edward Scissorhands? It's the movie that proves the rule: the only great Tim Burton movies are the ones with Johnny Depp playing a guy named Ed.
The Funeral? That's a way better song. Is There A Ghost? The Great Salt Lake? I don't even like BOH that much but they have way more than one good song.
Whedon didn't direct Cabin in the Woods.
It's just weird to me to be like "he's a one hit wonder, but I can't muster interest in Buffy/Angel." That's his best work. That'd be like saying "shame David Simon never did anything good after Homicide. I mean, I just can't muster any interest to watch The Wire."
So basically you've seen none of his best work outside of Cabin in the Woods, and therefore Cabin in the Woods is the only good thing he's done?
I don't get people who find The National morose and humorless. Even their dark songs have a lot of humor.
Yep, it's one of their best songs ever lyrically. Or maybe just ever, period (for me it's the best on High Violet at least, closely followed by Bloodbuzz, Lemonworld, and England).
