I demand that everytime someone praises the Office or Extras they strongly note Stephan Merchants writing. Everything Gervais writes that Merchant isn't involved with is notably shittier.

Past Lives was so slow and kinda boring. You kept waiting for more to happen and it never did. It wasn’t a terrible movie, but it was far from great. I would never watch it again.
Glad to see Polite Society getting some love, that was excellent and it really seemed to fly under the radar. On the other hand, I’m a little surprised to see a C-tier Anderson film like Asteroid City make the list.
Really great list...a couple I didn’t know! And obviously there are others we all love that didn’t make the list...”Blinded by the Light” by Manfred Mann is better than the original Springsteen honestly...Tori Amos’ “Smells Like Teen Spirit” is such an amazing reimagining of that song...Gary Jules takes a great Tears…
I quite like The Final Cut. I know there were three more albums after that, but it always felt like a very personal coda to something grand.
Most of these are notorious stinkers and/or ill-conceived artistic missteps, sure. Night in the Ruts is a weird selection, though. It’s a decent, though decidedly B-tier, Aerosmith album. It’s quite a bit better than the one that followed it (Rock in a Hard Place) and I would argue a lot more enjoyable than all the…
If you’re going to consider, for entries, cameos in “Anchorman” and his brief “Apocalypse Now” appearance , it’s incumbent to give one to his *other* “tiny but important and compelling” role for Coppola: Martin Starrett in “The Conversation”, in which he’s Smithers to Robert Duvall’s Burns, devotedly stalking & harassi…
Glad to see Rye Lane make the list. It really suprised me and I dug the whole colorful vibe.
One would think that the prerequisite for a comedy show would be, y’know, actual comedy. This just seems like a whole bunch of insufferable Gen-Y “it’s funny because it’s not funny, and that’s funny” abused irony.
I hate to say it because I love found footage movies, but The Outwaters sucked.
Oh my god. The Outwaters and Skinamarink are trash. Both those movies are overhyped nonsense. If I had to pick one to watch again, it would be Skinamarink. The Outwaters is easily one of the wort horror movies I’ve seen all year. I can’t believe it made this list except for the fact that it is a horror movie so…
Some odd picks here, and a fair number of streaming releases that I haven’t seen yet. Random notes:
Everything Everywhere All At Once is the most overrated movie of the year, that’s for sure.
So will Karen Black be number two or three?
.
That linear thinking holds you back.
Nice of you to post this when this site basically ignored this seasons existence. You didn’t review it or provide any but the barest of mentions. And AV wasn’t alone. It was ignored by most of the entertainment press and got less than half the reviews on Rotten Tomatoes that the first season got. One of the best shows…
I’ve only heard good things about this show. I still plan to watch it at some point.
Garth Marenghi’s darkplace has been free on Youtube for most of a decade.
I wildly disagree with this review. I think watching it as a programme on the BBC maybe made me view it differently then had I watched it as a film, but I still think this will be one of my top 10 for this year. It is stagey, for sure, but I found the format worked as it was more like the viewer was the third…
Slow year but maybe Relic deserved a mention ? Its fatalist melancholy and efficient visual symbolism will haunt me for a little while.
