Fellow DC area-resident here, can confirm I see this all the time in the Vienna/Reston/Great Falls area. I am envious and a little intimidated sometimes by the expanse of wealth some people have in this area, but it’s nice to see families buying Bentaygas and actually using them as family haulers. There is something

This is a good take

If this motor checked out OK despite the mileage, I’d drop $2200 in a heartbeat. Find some used OEM monoblock AMG wheels and you’d have a perfectly fine weekend cruiser that could be tossed to the curb if (when?) the repair bill ever got too large.

That Volvo with the color-matched roof bin...hnnnggggg

These are getting more and more difficult to find in this condition, and this shouldn’t cost much to own. Would make a great commuter daily for someone in a decent climate. Also sweet Radwood candidate. NP.

Ah nuts, it appears I committed a mis-read.

Given how dash cams aren’t quite mainstream in the U.S. just yet, it’s pretty miraculous that this was captured on video as clearly as it was.

Optional jump/pseudo-bench seat up front? Woahh

I voted NP because of the pictures. Any seller who takes the time to drive somewhere, take fancy pics, and do some minor image filtering despite having a vehicle with a turd-condition interior gets points in my book. Sub $3k always qualifies as f***-it money.

I like these but I think it’s ~$3-4k overpriced.

What is it with people posting CL images with their hood not fully closed? Right off the bad it puts a bad taste in my mouth. CLOSE YA DAMN HOOD!

Andrew—the first time I really heard your story was back a year (?) ago when you were on TST—I knew something had happened, but hearing it come from you gave my wife and I straight chills. The bag of sand reference...YIKES.

10/10 will still be hideous

Also: why is the Camaro right hand drive?

Boy, replicating these cars in NFS Underground 1/2 was the best.

NP as long as factory paint and no accidents.

This particular case looks like someone who doesn’t know what they are doing, but our Outback’s roof rack + the Thule roof bin is an absolute lifesaver. The Thule has prevented countless travel-related arguments over its years of service. Love it dearly.

Better question: when are we going to see the V63-S that will undoubtedly come with a 4.0L V8 biturbo?

Couldn’t agree more on your initial feelings towards VW, post-Dieselgate. Jalopnik doesn’t need to beat a dead horse (BUT) I just cannot come to terms with the fact that this mega-manufacturer of vehicles lied/doubled-down/actively tried to hide the fact that it was consciously harming the planet in the name of greed.

Still like the look of this first gen, and the sub-$3000 range will almost always pull a NP from the peanut gallery. Great first-car for a teenager. NP.
