I have one clear reason why I think the staffers are more likely to have done it: nobody reported her pregnancy. In 9 months, no matter how negligent the caregivers, someone would have noticed. There had to have been a cover-up here, implying to me that one of her caregivers did it and controlled information flow so

It’s just common sense to test the male staff members first. If that all comes up negative they can keep investigating.

Let’s say there are 50 employees. You’re one of them. Give a sample. Now the police can rule you out and lower their pool of suspects.

If they weren’t aware one of their patients was pregnant, what else are they missing? Furthermore, whoever did this to this woman could’ve done things to other patients there. It’s damning enough that they weren’t aware that one of their patients in a vegetative state was pregnant, and apparently the CEO knew it was

Presumably because staff are less restricted than patients and have less supervision.

Considering that people are voluntarily giving DNA info to companies like 23 and me, this database is less of an issue

It’s going to be an issue if the person who did this is no longer employed by this facility. I’d also look at work records and see who was on duty at (roughly) the time of possible conception

And I think it’s worth saying that this (in all likelihood) wasn’t a one-off, nor was it the first time she had been assaulted. Whichever piece of shit was doing this, was probably doing it for a while

Also examine the other patients for evidence of assault. Ask the patients who can communicate what they’ve seen and don’t dismiss it as fabrications or "brain damaged people don't understand what they see". It is unfortunately very likely that this poor woman wasn't the only victim, just the only one who got pregnant.

Test sample DNA against the baby, if its a negative match destroy the sample. The police should not get to retain DNA samples for “future crimes” when the vast majority of the staff did not assault this woman... I hope.

This feels like a horrifyingly invasive slippery slope and a huge violation of the rights of those who weren’t culpable..

The fact that the word ‘rape’ isn’t front and center on every news package that reports on this story is maddening.

It appears that they are treating the incident as a sexual assault, a felony crime.

You KNOW he absolutely sucks in bed.

I’ve known guys like him, he probably does think his opinions on women’s bodies, and what constitutes the right kind of body, are extremely fascinating to everyone he meets.

Or just fit (or genetically/metabolically-blessed) people he assumes are 25.

I remember seeing the headline for this somewhere else and saying “I bet he pervs hard on Asians.” AND SURE ENOUGH:

Curious too why he would fancy his own aging body worthy of a youthful encounter? Oh wait...he’s a man. Duh. Gotta say, while at 53 I do get a little bummed as my goods slide southward, but truth be told, the joy of ultimately not giving a crap how men like this view me is a delicious reward for aging!

He probably only thinks of 25 years old model bodies.

OK, but why, in any interview with this man, did his feelings on womens’ bodies come up? Does he just run around talking about how he prefers young women? I don’t get it.
