Mitsubishi did all of that with active differentials in 1997 when they were the first to release a car with one. Easily was in development for 5 or more years putting it close to 1989.

Not really, the Evo *had* and STI *has* far better fulltime AWD systems. Anything not fulltime is not as serious, unless of course it’s rear trans-axle ala GT-R.

I just modded the hell out of an 03 Jetta TDI with the 90hp ALH and am over 200whp and still getting great mileage driving it with a lead foot. Compounds and 40-50psi next up after maxing out my upgraded 11mm pump on this big single.
The RS AWD with its front OPEN differential and 100% static front biased torque distribution and a clutch-type mechanism to shift power rearward to over-driven rear wheels that can only be engaged 10 to 15 seconds at a time before overheating the clutch....
