They had a public health campaign focusing on the core Jewish value of caring for selves and others.

Not only that, but several orthodox Jews have told me that, in general, there *isn’t* a religious reason to be anti-vaccination. It is not like, say, Jehovah’s Witnesses and blood transfusions.

I’m a Jew and there aren't any.

There’s a verse that essentially says you should ‘guard your lives very well’, which is kind of a catch all that dictates a responsibility to take care of ones health, and to generally steer clear of danger. The anti-vaxxers think vaccines are bad for you. So they say their religion prohibits vaccination.

There is none. Even Israel is very concerned about measles. The government there is not putting up with the religious shit and banning people opting out of vaccinations from some public spaces.

It’s not. This is a fringe group of parents. Rabbis are even urging people to vaccinate but these people are so convinced that they even go against their leaders, or try to find a rabbi that’s against vaccines

Also a gentile, but I live in the area where the outbreak is occurring, and it’s absolutely not religious in nature; rabbis are working overtime with the health department to convince people to get vaccinated (the rabbis I’ve seen cited say it’s actually an obligation *to* get vaccinated).

Major Rabbinical scholars have declared vaccines kosher, though some vaccines actually do use animal ingredients in part of the manufacturing practices that wouldn't normally be considered kosher due to the overall good they do for public health.

From what I can tell there are no clear religious justifications for it as there are plenty of orthodox rabbis in New York telling their people to get vaccinated.  That said the Old Testament and the Talmud are like any other religious text: if you want to find passages to support your anti-vax beliefs (or literally

It’s a whole thing in very insular Orthodox communities, just like it is in gentile communities. Some vaccines can contain gelatin but the kosher limitations do not apply to injections. the Jewish value pikuach nefesh obligates Jews to put the health and safety of their community before any individual preference, and

I think his slaves would have something to say about that “self made” claim.

They were banned post-Andrew.

As a whole our state (and all states, but especially Florida) needs a lot more education on why these things are happening and why they need to happen. And also, why releasing your wild animal is not a humane way to get rid of it when you’re done enjoying it. (I have also unfortunately known people who outright

I don’t feel bad for the snake at all. Not because I’m afraid of snakes, I’m not. I think snakes are cool, but because

this.  fungi are eukaryotes, which means their cell structures are similar to ours.  antibiotics work because bacteria are prokaryotes, and can be corraled by medications which weaken them but don’t harm us.

While this is definitely an ongoing issue, over prescription of antibiotics has zero to do with a fungal outbreak/drug resistant fungus. Over prescription of anti-fungals/fungicide, sure. But, definitely not antibiotics.

Whilst drug resistant fungi are clearly a threat, their rise isn’t really linked to the o erperscription of antibiotics.

How did this fungus “become resistant to antibiotics”? Antibiotics kill bacteria, not fungi. Overusing antibiotics can kill healthy bacterial flora, making someone more susceptible to fungal infections but it doesn’t make the fungus antibiotic-resistant.

“It started in the soil. Does this mean that Round Up usage has caused this?”
