this book really did start the animal welfare movement. there’s even a scene where Beauty talks to a mother dog and she complains about how cruel it is that her newborn puppies are taken to have their ears and tails docked.

He did a really fantastically good job researching that book. To the point that it should be accepted as a thesis paper for a master’s degree in public health or emergency management, like how Cats Cradle earned Kurt Vonnegut an anthropology degree.
